Basketball Recap: Calaveras Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Makenna Neelans and Mariah Maddock

If Calaveras was riding high fresh off their 71-2 takedown of Big Valley Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Calaveras Red Hawks took a 49-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bret Harte Bullfrogs on Friday. The Red Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bullfrogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Mariah Maddock and Makenna Neelans certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Maddock dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards, while Neelans posted six points and three steals. That's the most rebounds Maddock has posted since back in November of 2024.

Calaveras' loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Bret Harte, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Calaveras has already played their next game (against Linden), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bret Harte will face off against Riverbank at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Riverbank comes in on five and Bret Harte on six.
