Pottsgrove has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Boyertown Bears at 12:00 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Wednesday, Pottsgrove came up short against Pope John Paul II and fell 54-43. Pottsgrove has not had much luck with Pope John Paul II recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Pottsgrove saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mikayla Eckman, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Eckman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Carroll, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Boyertown suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 51-23 loss at the hands of Manheim Township. While losing is never fun, Boyertown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while Manheim Township is ranked 52nd).
The losing side was boosted by Madelyn Weaver, who scored 13 points along with two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Pottsgrove's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-12. As for Boyertown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Pottsgrove have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Boyertown, though, as they've been averaging only 25.7 rebounds per game. Given Pottsgrove's sizeable advantage in that area, Boyertown will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pottsgrove lost to Boyertown on the road by a decisive 45-31 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Pottsgrove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
