After a string of three wins, the Riverview Raiders's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They suffered a tough 54-32 defeat at the hands of St. Joseph. Riverview has not had much luck with St. Joseph recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Juliette Brun, who scored three points along with three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Abraham, who scored nine points along with five assists.
St. Joseph's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gia Richter led the charge by scoring 18 points along with four steals. Richter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julie Spinelli, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds.
Riverview's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for St. Joseph, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 19-2.
Riverview will be playing at home against Jeannette at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Adriana Allison and Abraham. St. Joseph is on the road again on Monday and plays Shady Side Academy at 5:00 p.m. on February 12th. Shady Side Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
