The Credo Gryphon lost against the Piner Prospectors back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Credo took a serious blow against Piner, falling 56-26. Credo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-13.
Despite the loss, Credo saw an underclassman step up: Maya Leach scored 8 points. Leach scored a full 30.8% of Credo's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of June Guthrie, who scored 5 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Piner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Briana Sanchez , who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds. Betzie Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Credo and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Piner, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Credo is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Rio Lindo Adventist at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Rio Lindo Adventist focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Wednesday. As for Piner, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Vincent de Paul at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Vincent de Paul will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
