The Newark Memorial Cougars will take on the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Newark Memorial 3.6, Moreau Catholic 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Newark Memorial is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Irvington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this matchup were averaging 3.56 runs allowed.
King Lopez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Aaron Marcus was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Julian Munoz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic suffered their closest loss since March 28, 2025 on Friday. They fell just short of Kennedy by a score of 7-5.

At the plate, Micah Marks made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Gary Elizarrey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Newark Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Moreau Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newark Memorial has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Moreau Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Newark Memorial came out on top in a nail-biter against Moreau Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2025, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
