Turner County extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-15 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monroe Golden Tornadoes. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.
Jazalynn Lewis put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off two hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Diamond Wilson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamerial Martin, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As for Monroe, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
On Monroe's side, they got a massive performance out of Ariya Lee, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Lee has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Raquel Timley, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Coming up, Turner County will welcome Brooks County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.6 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monroe, they will head out on the road to square off against Mitchell County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
