Football Recap: Artesia Takes Down Ranked Hobbs

Artesia faced Hobbs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 51-41. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 44-40 loss the last time these two teams met.

Artesia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Parra, who rushed for 125 yards and one score while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 92 receiving yards and one touchdown. Parra was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 68 yards. Jack Byers also helped with three TDs in total.

Artesia didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hobbs to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. The Bulldogs weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 59.5%.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Artesia, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Parra, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demarcus Hill, who rushed for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Junior Medrano was another key player, throwing for 178 yards and three TDs.

Artesia has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 49.5 points this season. As for Hobbs, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Artesia will face off against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hobbs, they will square off against Roswell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
