For the second straight game, Burton will face off against Leadership. The Pumas will venture away from home to face off against the Griffin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Burton has four straight wins, Leadership has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Burton made easy work of Leadership and carried off a 21-2 victory. Considering the Pumas have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Christian Pabalate and Juan Sanchez were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Pabalate pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sanchez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Pabalate has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Pabalate went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Sanchez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, Sanchez posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Ryan Perez Say and Isaac Bautista did most of the damage at the plate: Perez Say got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Bautista went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Perez Say a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roger Solano-Casco, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Burton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Burton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Leadership, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
