Torrey Pines has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Torrey Pines came up short against La Costa Canyon and fell 54-43.
Despite the loss, Torrey Pines had strong showings from Grace Trusso, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Lily Oliva, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy suffered a rough 60-36 defeat at the hands of Bishop's last Friday. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while Bishop's is ranked 213th).
St. Joseph Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Luciana Aguilar, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, and Pamela Torres who scored 12 points along with four steals. Aguilar is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angie Beath, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Torrey Pines' loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-13. As for St. Joseph Academy, they dropped their record down to 12-15 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Torrey Pines have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Torrey Pines didn't have too much breathing room in their match against St. Joseph Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2021, but they still walked away with a 41-37 win. Will Torrey Pines repeat their success, or does St. Joseph Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
