Southwest SD is 1-9 against Mar Vista since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Mariners at 3:30 p.m. Southwest SD is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Southwest SD beat Chula Vista 5-2.
Anthony Bejarano tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aquiles Lugo was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Southwest SD is undefeated when Lugo posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-9-1 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Mar Vista had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mariners have posted against the Trojans since April 24, 2018.
The result came thanks to Peter Thomas's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Mar Vista's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Snow, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Snow has posted since back in March.
Mar Vista's record is now 10-11. As for Southwest SD, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southwest SD has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mar Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Southwest SD suffered a grim 22-5 defeat to Mar Vista when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
