If the Gregori Jaguars were feeling good off their 56-19 takedown of the Modesto Panthers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gregori received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 57-38 to Pitman. Gregori was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Pitman apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Gregori saw an underclassman step up: Veronica Whitten dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Whitten is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alanah Lopez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Leading Pitman to victory were Dailynn Greener and Elizabeth Webb. Greener dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds, while Webb scored 23 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Webb continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lexi Pulido was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Gregori's defeat dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Pitman, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-10.
Gregori will face off against Lodi at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Gregori focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Pitman, they will take on Edison at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Pitman is coming into the game with three straight victories on the road, so Edison is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
