The Smithsburg Leopards will be playing at home against the Governor Thomas Johnson Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Smithsburg unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 68-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Middletown. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Smithsburg's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Skyla Mastronardi, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds, and Maren McFarland who scored 13 points along with seven assists and four steals. Mastronardi is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Molly Weaver, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Governor Thomas Johnson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell 54-41 to Tuscarora.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Riley Kelly, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Nso, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Smithsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Governor Thomas Johnson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Smithsburg have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Governor Thomas Johnson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
