Silver Valley is 8-1 against Desert since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will square off against the Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. Silver Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Silver Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Victor Valley Christian 10-0. Timothey Yrigoyen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Silver Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Yrigoyen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Taylor Mogan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Ben Gillam was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Silver Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Desert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 14-2 to Boron. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Scorpions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Desert saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Dion, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Another was Nick Webb, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
The win got Silver Valley back to even at 5-5. As for Desert, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Silver Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Desert struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Silver Valley beat Desert 11-8 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
