Football Recap: Bennington Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Bennington had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.3 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They strolled past the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks with points to spare, taking the game 31-14. For the Badgers, this counts as revenge for the 29-26 win the SkyHawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Bennington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Gutz led the charge by rushing for 142 yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Gutz is now averaging an impressive 104.6 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Bouaphakeo, who threw for 141 yards and one TD.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Myles Gifford, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Bennington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Baylor Uhing, Brendon Da Luz, and Cole Miller picked up one apiece. Miller is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played. Jacob Sanger was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, making 11 total tackles, and defending one pass.

Bennington's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Skutt Catholic, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Bennington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 29-27 defeat against Elkhorn North on the 23rd. As for Skutt Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 49-34 win against Blair on the 24th.
