The Mattamuskeet Lakers can finally bid farewell to their 13-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Ocracoke by a score of 37-26. Mattamuskeet's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Kensley Cox, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Mccoy, who scored two points along with 13 rebounds.
Several Dolphins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Heidy Lora, who scored 15 points. It was the first time this season that Lora scored 15 or more points. Jami Martinez was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Mattamuskeet's win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-11. As for Ocracoke, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattamuskeet will take on the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pungo Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Lakers in North Carolina (the Raiders are ranked 247th, while the Lakers are ranked 588th). As for Ocracoke, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.
