Baseball Recap: Willow Glen Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Willow Glen, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Palo Alto Vikings on Wednesday. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 7-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Spencer Bartlinski made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Bartlinski was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Willow Glen's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Nolan Wirtz looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ray Walsh, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Haas Perry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Willow Glen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palo Alto struck out eight times.

Willow Glen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Palo Alto dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willow Glen will welcome Evergreen Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Palo Alto, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Menlo-Atherton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Menlo-Atherton's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Palo Alto's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
