The Grossmont Foothillers will head out on the road to challenge the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Grossmont took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Rancho Bernardo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Foothillers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Broncos 5-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Foothillers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Grossmont got a great performance from Jacob Holman as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Holman has become a key player for the Foothillers: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Max Tufugafale, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Point Loma waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Titans.
Johnny Bowes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Druw Frost was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Ben Waterman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Point Loma's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Grossmont, their record now sits at 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Grossmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Grossmont came out on top in a nail-biter against Point Loma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Foothillers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pointers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
