The Tamaqua Blue Raiders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Jim Thorpe 72-28 at home. Tamaqua has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
Tamaqua's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Bartenope, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bartenope has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lorelei Plasha, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Jim Thorpe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sarah Hartman. Despite the final result, she scored nine points. Kiara Ginopolas was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Tamaqua is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Jim Thorpe, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Tamaqua will head out on the road to challenge the Battlin' Miners at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Minersville's defense has only allowed 29.6 points per game this season, so the Blue Raiders' offense will have their work cut out for them.
