Pacific Grove hasn't had much luck against Palma recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Pacific Grove Breakers will venture away from home to face off against the Palma Chieftains at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Palma will be coming in after a loss.
Pacific Grove was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Monterey 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Breakers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Georgio Rosa looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, River Lyon was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Sanchez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Palma came up short against Hollister on Friday and fell 8-5. The Chieftains have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Palma also got a good showing from Zach Gonzales, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Alan Gonzalez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rocco Razzeca, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Palma's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Pacific Grove, their record is now 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pacific Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Palma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pacific Grove suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Palma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Pacific Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
