The Southington Blue Knights will square off against the Cheshire Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southington will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Southington's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Plainville.
Plainville's batters probably weren't too happy with Rocco Davino, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (he gave up zero walks). Davino has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Max Pierce was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Cheshire lost 11-4 to Fairfield Prep on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this game were averaging 3.79 runs allowed.
Cheshire also got a good showing from Michael Delaney, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Cal Battipaglia made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Southington's win bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Cheshire, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cheshire struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Southington beat Cheshire 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Blue Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
