The Varnado Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Hammond, falling 77-35. While losing is never fun, Varnado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 284th, while Hammond is ranked 94th).
Hammond can attribute much of their success to Justin Harland, who scored 17 points. Harland continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charles Armstrong, who scored 11 points along with 6 assists.
Varnado's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Hammond, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Varnado will take on Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hammond, they will head out on the road to face off against Denham Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
