Basketball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for West Campus

West Campus had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48.3 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. Everything went their way against the Burbank Titans as they made off with a 53-27 win. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Titans are ranked 898th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Campus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naomi Johnson led the charge by putting up 20 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Johnson's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Loismary Justice, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 21 boards.

West Campus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Burbank's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Aniyah Bufford, who posted eight points and nine rebounds, and Daejahmonni Tagger, who put up ten points and six boards. Bufford is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season.

West Campus' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Burbank, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

West Campus has already played their next contest, a 66-13 win against Johnson on the 29th. As for Burbank, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-40 victory against Armijo on the 29th.
