The Portage Mustangs put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Conemaugh Valley 54-28. The result was nothing new for Portage, who have now won three games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Portage had a senior duo take command as Jenna Burkett dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds and Alex Chobany scored 14 points along with six blocks. The contest was Burkett's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Liana Bagby, who scored six points.
Despite the defeat, Conemaugh Valley saw an underclassman step up: Illyana Darcangelo scored 13 points. Darcangelo scored a full 46.4% of Conemaugh Valley's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Conemaugh Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Portage racked up 17 assists.
Portage's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23.67 points. As for Conemaugh Valley, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Portage will be home for the holidays to greet Purchase Line at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Purchase Line focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Thursday.
