Northwestern is 0-10 against Mercyhurst Prep since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northwestern Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers at 7:30 p.m. Northwestern is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Northwestern came up short against Greenville and fell 61-52. While losing is never fun, Northwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 626th, while Greenville is ranked 291st).
Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep lost to Grove City at home by a decisive 56-42 margin on Friday. Mercyhurst Prep has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maddox Brzuz, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Derek Bly, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Mercyhurst Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Northwestern was dealt a bruising 66-36 loss at the hands of Mercyhurst Prep when the teams last played back in January. Can Northwestern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
