Mayfield is 2-8 against Polytechnic since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mayfield Cubs' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Polytechnic Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Saturday.
Mayfield suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Providence by a score of 36-33. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mayfield in their matchups with Providence: they've now lost eight in a row.
Kristen Awakuni put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored six points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christine Ellis, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Polytechnic had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 42-29 win over Westridge on Thursday. The win was just what Polytechnic needed coming off of a 76-17 loss in their prior match.
Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Polytechnic, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
Mayfield took a serious blow against Polytechnic in their previous meeting on January 5th, falling 56-28. Can Mayfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
