Sonora had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-12 to make it 12. They came up short against the Orestimba Warriors, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-4 on Wednesday.
Sonora saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dallas Lattin, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. James Herd was another, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Orestimba, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.
On Orestimba's side, Axel Diaz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Diaz also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Orestimba is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Diaz was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Orestimba let Jaden Sotelo and Damian Mendoza run wild. Sotelo went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Mendoza went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Sotelo has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Montes, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sonora is set to square off against their familiar foe Ripon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Orestimba will challenge rival Hughson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
