The Saint Francis Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Santa Cruz Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Saint Francis is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Saint Francis had to settle for a 43-41 defeat against Pioneer. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Saint Francis has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Allison Dauer, who scored ten points along with three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Spencer, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They were outmatched by Los Gatos on the road and fell 67-31. While losing is never fun, Santa Cruz can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while Los Gatos is ranked 29th).
Saint Francis' defeat dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Santa Cruz, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Saint Francis against Santa Cruz in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 75-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saint Francis since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
