Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Shaw's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Shaw's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Spencer Greenwave a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Raiders have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashton Weeks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Otis Stephens was a standout: he scored three runs while going 2-for-2. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Shaw is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Lovett, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Shaw kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Shaw has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. Spencer's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Shaw will face off against Calvary Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shaw's pitchers better be ready for this one: Calvary Christian has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Spencer, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Kendrick at 5:30 p.m. on April 11. Spencer is facing Kendrick at the right time seeing as Kendrick is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
