At the plate, Sonoma Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Hughes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Josh Plexico also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Vintage waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Crushers have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Soren DeYoung looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Blake Porter was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Vintage is undefeated when Porter posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of John Bullock, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Vintage's record now sits at 7-5. As for Sonoma Valley, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-11.
Sonoma Valley couldn't quite get it done against Vintage in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
