This season hasn't been kind to the Maricopa Indians, who are still winless after their sixth game. They were outmatched by Coastal Christian on the road and fell 76-2. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Maricopa has scored all season.
Coastal Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carly Starkovich out in front who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. Starkovich is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tania Richards, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Maricopa's defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Coastal Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-3.
Maricopa's road trip will continue as they head out to face Highland at 4:00 p.m. on December 28th. Coastal Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coast Union at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Coast Union comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
