Video: Socastee executes heads up play of the yearSouth Carolina squad completes rare special teams touchdown. This is one of the rarest plays we've seen all year.
Socastee (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) was attempting a punt at its own 40-yard line - and then things got wild. The ball flew over the punter's head on an errant snap, and he barely got the kick off as five South Florence defenders mauled him.
Everyone watched as the ball hung in the air. But Socastee's
Malachi McClendon was the only person on the field to realize the ball failed to pass the line of scrimmage.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior corralled the ball and sprinted 60 yards the other way for the touchdown as everyone stood around in bewilderment.
Heads up play of the year.
The Braves ended up losing the 47-44 heartbreaker to South Florence - but this play should be hard to forget.
