Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Pleasant Grove Hawks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 34-31. Pleasant Grove's loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
Carthage was led to victory by Kj Edwards and Kd Matlock. Edwards rushed for 271 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, while Matlock gained 287 total yards and four touchdowns. Edwards really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. Bradan Manning did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 54 receiving yards.
Pleasant Grove's loss dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Carthage, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.
Pleasant Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Carthage will be playing at home against Gilmer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gilmer's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
