Westminster is 0-4 against Horizon since August of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Hawks at 10:00 a.m. Westminster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Westminster will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Northglenn on Thursday. The Wolves walked away with a 10-5 win over the Norsemen.
Elizabeth Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Magaly Santacruz Vasquez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August. Alexa Martinez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Horizon entered their tilt with Silver Creek on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Raptors. 11 seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kaiya Barela made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Barela was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Larrissa Arvizo was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Regan Glaza, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
The win got Westminster back to even at 9-9. As for Horizon, their record now sits at 12-5.
