Saddleback is on a nine-game streak of home losses, Costa Mesa a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Saddleback Roadrunners will take on the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Saddleback comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last 19 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Saddleback suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Estancia at home and fell 58-25. While losing is never fun, Saddleback can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1274th, while Estancia is ranked 574th).
Meanwhile, Costa Mesa came up short against Santa Ana on Tuesday and fell 43-32.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mya Martinez, who scored eight points along with two steals. Emi Kamikihara was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Saddleback's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Costa Mesa, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 15 of their last 18 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.
Saddleback might still be hurting after the 40-14 defeat they got from Costa Mesa in their previous meeting on January 2nd. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Saddleback was down 24-2.
