It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Peru Tigers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 55-51 victory over Tippecanoe Valley. That's another feather in the cap for Peru, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Peru had a senior duo take command as Matthew Roettger scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and three steals and Alex Ross scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Xavier Turner, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Tippecanoe Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ian Cooksey. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Blain Sheetz was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Tippecanoe Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Peru's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Tippecanoe Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Peru won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lewis Cass at 7:45 p.m. on December 16th. Lewis Cass will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Peru is ranked 99th). Tippecanoe Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wheeler at 1:30 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Wheeler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Friday.
