Basketball Game Preview: Woodland Christian Cardinals vs. Rio Vista Rams

Two dominant guards in Teagan Hayes and Samiah Holley are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Woodland Christian Cardinals will take on the Rio Vista Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodland Christian will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

Woodland Christian is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing San Juan: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Woodland Christian blew San Juan out of the water with a 63-6 final score. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 25 points or more this season.

Keziah Maldonado-Lemus continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 for 10 en route to 17 points along with eight assists and eight steals. Maldonado-Lemus is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayes, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points and five steals.

Meanwhile, Rio Vista posted their biggest win since January 26, 2024 on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 54-12 victory over Highlands. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.

Woodland Christian pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.8 points. As for Rio Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season.

Woodland Christian took their victory against Rio Vista when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 54-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodland Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
