Will Trunnelle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Tate Hammond was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Neil Morris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Long Beach Poly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cabrillo only managed seven.
Meanwhile, Millikan waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since February 23rd.
Like Long Beach Poly, Millikan also got a great game from a two-way player: Daunte Bell. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Bell has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xavier Kennard, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. AJ Nonato was another key player, getting three hits from his three at bats.
Long Beach Poly's win bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Millikan, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6.
