The Marysville Indians will face off against the Valley Christian Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Marysville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Marysville took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Dixon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rams a 1-0 shutout on Monday. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by just one run.
Not much got past Antonio Torrez, who gave up just three hits to keep Dixon off the board. Torrez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Marysville is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-17-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Marysville's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Taegan Jung, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Louden Carter and Domminic Eyster made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Carter tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Eyster tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At bat, Carter went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Eyster went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jeremiah Pritchard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Joshua Goff was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Valley Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Valley Christian pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Marysville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-18-1 record this season.
Marysville beat Valley Christian 10-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
