Caston hasn't had much luck against Wabash recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Comets will look to defend their home field against the Apaches at 5:30 p.m. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
North Miami hit Caston with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Warriors, falling 10-4.
Parker Zimpleman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Eli Holloway was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wabash had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with a 14-2 victory. The Apaches might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jake Sailors and Mackey Sorg were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Sailors pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Sorg pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Sailors posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Sailors got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Sorg went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haiden McWhirt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Remington Cressell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
Wabash kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwood only managed two.
Wabash's win bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Caston, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wabash struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
