The Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles will challenge the Epping Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Portsmouth Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Portsmouth Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Nute on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Grady Howe made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-6 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Chamberlain, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Epping earned an 11-6 win over Sunapee on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now won six in a row.
William Ciriello made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Schmal, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Chase Kukesh was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Portsmouth Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Epping, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Portsmouth Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Epping struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Portsmouth Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Epping in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
