National high school boys basketball scoring leaders: Pennsylavania junior explodes for 61

Tanner Colflesh is putting his best foot forward.

The 6-foot-1 junior from Turkeyfoot Valley Area in Confluence, Pa., put up 61 points last week in a game to move to No. 3 in the national scoring race at just under 40 points per game (39.5).

Colfesh, who started the season with a 58-point explosion, has scored more than 50 four times this season and is shooting at a remarkably high clip — 58 percent. In last week's 93-64 win over Northern Bedford County, Colfesh made 7-of-9 3-pointers and 17-for-26 on 2-pointers.

He also averages 7.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the 15-9 Rams, who play Southern Fulton on Friday.

Though few outside of tiny town of Confluence (population 834), located in the Southwest corner of Pennsylvania know of Colfesh, many are familiar with San Ysidro freshman Mikey Williams. The 6-4 wing has has been a YouTube sensation most of the year, especially after he erupted for 77 points in a 116-42 win over Kearney on Dec. 12.

Williams ranks 31st in the country at 30.8 points per game, to go along with 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per outing. He's considered one of the top freshmen in the country.

Overall, there are four freshmen among the nation's Top 50, including the nation's leading scorer, Markus Robinson of Finney (Penfield, N.Y.) at 45.6 per game. He's trying to become the first freshman to ever do so, according to records that go back to 1948.

Of the top 50 scorers, 30 are seniors, 11 are juniors, five are sophomore with four freshmen.
