Maplewood is 8-2 against Cochranton since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Maplewood Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Cochranton Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Maplewood sitting on seven straight victories and Cochranton on three.
On Thursday, Maplewood earned a 45-36 win over Saegertown. Given Maplewood's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Saegertown is ranked 486th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Even though Cochranton has not done well against Cambridge Springs recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Cochranton blew past Cambridge Springs 49-28. The score was close at the half, but Cochranton pulled away in the second half with 32 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cochranton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shelby Mcbryar, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Eve Pfeiffer, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Maplewood's win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Cochranton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Maplewood didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Cochranton in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 36-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maplewood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
