The Sonora Wildcats waltzed into Monday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 38-37 photo finish over Sierra. Given Sonora's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Sierra is ranked 772nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Sonora to victory were Adeline Hanson and Taylor Faught. Hanson scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds, while Faught scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Hanson has scored at least 25% of Sonora's points.
Sonora's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Sierra, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Sonora will head out on the road to face off against Orestimba at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Orestimba focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Monday. As for Sierra, they will face off against Merced at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
