The McDonough Rams will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Chesapeake Bay Hawks at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully McDonough focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
McDonough unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 70-45 walloping at the hands of Alexandria City. While losing is never fun, McDonough can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 112th in Maryland, while Alexandria City is ranked 22nd in Virginia).
The losing side was boosted by Lantz Butler, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhai Johnson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chesapeake pushed their score all the way to 56 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Perry Hall. Chesapeake has not had much luck with Perry Hall recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
McDonough's record is now 5-2. Chesapeake's record now sits at 1-5.
