The Moore Catholic Mavericks and the Sacred Heart Academy Spartans will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Moore Catholic will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Moore Catholic has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 23 points or more this season. They breezed by St. Edmund Prep on the road to the tune of 57-19. With Moore Catholic ahead 35-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Moore Catholic's win on Monday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brianna Caliri, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The game was Caliri's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Costanzo, who scored eight points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart Academy fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Holy Cross last Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 58-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Moore Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Sacred Heart Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Moore Catholic came up short against Sacred Heart Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 62-57. Can Moore Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
