Diego Guzman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he also posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
In other pitching news, Joey Colitti looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aaron Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Rowen Kaiser was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Royal kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Culver City.
Royal also got a good showing from Jonah Thompson, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Thompson didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024.
At the plate, Royal saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Hewitt, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
St. Bonaventure came up short against Royal in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 9-6. Can St. Bonaventure avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
