The GALA Goddesses will head out on the road to take on University Pathways Medical Magnet at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, GALA rose to the challenge on Thursday. They really took it to the Panthers for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-17 victory at home. The win was some much needed relief for GALA as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
GALA can attribute much of their success to Lauren Pang-Le, who scored 13 points, and Leland Holleman, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holleman has scored all season. Elissa Arnold was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, University Pathways Medical Magnet was able to grind out a solid win over Gertz-Ressler last Thursday, taking the game 32-21.
University Pathways Medical Magnet got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Camila Alcaraz out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 25 rebounds. Alcaraz is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 14 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Benitez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds.
GALA's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9. As for University Pathways Medical Magnet, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-16 record this season.
GALA strolled past University Pathways Medical Magnet in their previous meeting back in November of 2019 by a score of 46-28. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was University Pathways Medical Magnet's Lauren Lee, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for GALA to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
