Having just played yesterday, the Downers Grove North Trojans will jump right back in to play the Waubonsie Valley Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Downers Grove North comes in on seven and Waubonsie Valley on ten.
On Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Downers Grove North beat Palatine 35-31. Given Downers Grove North's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Palatine is ranked 173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Downers Grove North got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Campbell Thulin out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Sebek, who scored 13 points.
Waubonsie Valley has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 20 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing Hinsdale Central 67-47. 67 seems to be a good number for Waubonsie Valley as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waubonsie Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hannah Laub, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Laub's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Danyella Mporokoso was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Downers Grove North is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Waubonsie Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Downers Grove North have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Waubonsie Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 26.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Downers Grove North came up short against Waubonsie Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 50-44.
