The Central Spartans are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Vincent Memorial Scots at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th.
Last Saturday, Central came up short against Calexico and fell 35-28. While losing is never fun, Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 611th, while Calexico is ranked 221st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Victoria Zamora, who scored 10 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya McClain, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Vincent Memorial didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Palo Verde Valley on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 46-40 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Vincent Memorial.
Vincent Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paola Longoria led the charge by scoring 17 points along with 7 rebounds. Dafne Borunda was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 3 steals.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Vincent Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4-1 record this season.
Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Vincent Memorial in their previous meeting last Wednesday, sneaking past 40-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
