The Center Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Yuba City Honkers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Center has three straight wins, Yuba City has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Center was able to grind out a solid victory over Foothill, taking the game 41-34.
Center's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Miessah Sagun, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Sagun has scored at least 25% of Center's points. Laylarae Blake was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Yuba City came up short against Rio Linda on Monday and fell 40-33. While losing is never fun, Yuba City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 808th, while Rio Linda is ranked 344th).
Center's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Yuba City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Center ended up a good deal behind Yuba City in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, losing 55-38. Can Center avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
